"Microdosing Gave Me Myself"

Real voices. Real healing. Meet Rome — the first voice in our storytelling series to #LegalizeMicrodosing... 🌀🌍

We’re building a future where microdosing is safe, legal, accessible, and powered by community.

Every week, we hear from people whose lives have been changed by microdosing: students, scientists, therapists, parents, artists, even skeptics. 👀

In the past year alone, more than 4 million Americans microdosed psilocybin. This isn’t just a trend, it’s a growing movement of first-timers, seasoned explorers, and professionals shaping the future of psychedelic healing. 🍄

While we really (!!) love the research, the policy, and the science, it’s these personal stories that remind us why this work matters most.

Stories Do What Data Can’t

They show us what’s possible — not just in the breakthroughs, but in the quiet, everyday returns to self. They validate the subtle shifts and healing that doesn’t always make headlines. And most of all, they connect us to ourselves, to each other, and to something bigger.

That’s why we’re spotlighting the voices of this movement through interviews with some of our incredible community members.

To keep showing the world what healing can look like, one small dose at a time.

Rome Shadanloo knows this path well — and she’s been guiding others along it through Mycology Psychology.

We interviewed Rome to learn more about her journey using microdosing to navigate autoimmune disease, support nervous system regulation, and reconnect with her compassionate inner artist. 👇

What was life like before you discovered microdosing?

“Life before microdosing was a life of hiding. Mostly from myself. I had powerful experiences with larger doses, but integration was another story. I’d glimpse truths I couldn’t hold onto, but that changed when I started microdosing. I began to feel what nervous system flexibility actually meant in real time, in the little moments of my day. It wasn’t just about big breakthroughs anymore; it was about who I was becoming between them. I started to see more of my core self show up. Less armor. Fewer stories. More presence.”

"I found the part of me I thought I had lost."

What changes did you experience after you started microdosing?

“I remember taking my first dose and going to an art gallery. I kept going, and before I knew it, I was reconnecting with my inner artist—the part of me I thought I had lost. Honestly, for someone like me, that kind of reconnection is the most healing thing that could happen. Microdosing dropped me into a completely different part of my brain—one without looping thoughts, endless scrolling, overanalyzing, or dissociation. And once that happened, everything began to change. Even my fibromyalgia started to ease. That’s when I truly realized how powerful microdosing can be—especially for those of us navigating autoimmune disorders.”

“I could finally be present in my body.“

How has your relationship to yourself — or to others — changed through this journey?

“I used to override my intuition constantly, either from fear, overthinking, or old trauma patterns—but microdosing helped soften the static. I became more curious, more compassionate, and more present with myself. Then my relationships with others started to shift too. On one hand, I was able to have more patience and compassion with others, and on the other hand, my tolerance for toxicity steadily decreased. It didn’t turn me into a different person—it just helped me come home to who I already was.”

"Healing should never be criminalized."

Why do you support creating legal access to microdosing?

“So we can reclaim our right to heal. People are suffering in silence—living with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD—and a lot of them aren’t being helped by traditional treatments. Microdosing offers a gentle, non-invasive path that works with the body and nervous system. It’s also incredibly safe, especially when guided by a trained practitioner. At Mycology Psychology, we’ve done our best to fill in the gaps. Public perception is softening, and legalization would only help that. It would mean less fear, less stigma, and more access to the healing people truly need.”
