10 Million Americans Microdosed in 2025

Explore the latest national and global data that’s reshaping how we understand microdosing today 🍄

10 million U.S. adults reported microdosing in 2025, according to a new nationally representative study from RAND.

The findings are historic, helping us build a clearer picture of how widespread microdosing has become since their last report in 2024, and how people are engaging with psychedelics today.

In this newsletter, we’re unpacking the latest global data and insights to keep you informed and ahead of the microdosing conversation.👇

📊 What the Data Shows

Instagram Post

According to RAND’s survey of U.S. adults who used psilocybin, LSD, or MDMA in the past year:

  • Microdosing has become a primary mode of psychedelic use

  • Among psilocybin users, more than two-thirds (69%) reported microdosing

  • Close to half of all psilocybin use occurred at sub-perceptual doses

Psilocybin also emerged as the most widely used psychedelic overall, with an estimated 11 million U.S. adults reporting use.

Rather than reflecting isolated or experimental use, these patterns suggest a broader change in how people are choosing to engage with psychedelics: often in more intentional, lower-dose, and repeatable ways.

🌍 Microdosing Is a Global Phenomenon

Earlier findings from the 2024 Global Psychedelic Survey echo these trends worldwide:

  • Psilocybin (74.5%) and LSD (34.4%) are the most commonly microdosed substances globally

  • Ketamine (15.8%) is increasingly part of the mix

Reported motivations consistently centered on positive outcomes:

  • 73% cited general well-being as their primary reason

  • Personal growth and mindfulness were also key drivers

As curiosity and demand grows, so does community. To date, the Global Psychedelic Society has mapped over 208 psychedelic societies worldwide, reflecting a rising desire for education, connection, and shared learning.

We’re grateful to have welcomed over 5,000 new members to our community in 2025!

🔬 Microdosing Today: Global Stats, Trends, and Early Science Signals

Microdosing isn’t new, but acceptance appears to be quickly on the rise. Data from the World Drug Report suggests that global microdosing prevalence (LSD and psilocybin) increased by roughly 80% between 2018 and 2020.

These findings are promising, and the good news is that research is moving beyond surveys and observational studies, with controlled trials on mood, cognition, and performance starting to emerge.

Bottom line: the signals are strong, the momentum is building, and the science around microdosing is in motion around the world, from New Zealand to the United Kingdom, the United States, and beyond.

👤 Millions of people are already microdosing, often intentionally, thoughtfully, and in pursuit of well-being.

As we advocate for research, legalization, and public education, one thing is clear:

People are curious about microdosing and exploring new ways to support their mental health beyond traditional approaches.

That makes education, transparency, harm reduction, and rigorous science more important than ever.

We’ll keep breaking down the science, providing clear education, and advocating for the legalization of all doses so everyone can explore these medicines safely, legally, and informed.
